Jeremy Corbyn MP and Chair of Liberation, Jose Musau Kalanda activist of Congolese Women's Group, Maggie Bowden General Secretary of Liberation & Victoria Dove Dimandja activist of Congolese Women's Group.

Jeremy Corbyn MP and Chair of Liberation tells of his visit to the DR Congo, and explains why Liberation decided to help our Congolese sisters here in the UK to help inform the British Public what was taking place and called for Liberation to raise the issue with the UN in Geneva, and the EU in Brussels.

Jeremy, who first visited the DRC as an election observer on behalf of the UN in 2006, described what he saw and the hopes of that time. On a later visit to Goma, in the east of Congo, Jeremy met many rape victims and had a dialogue with womens organisations and also visited some of the Refugee Camps. He condemned the violence against women and the militia forces. He expressed concern at the ineffective actions of the Congo Army and the dangers of the militia and foreign interventions. The mining companies and their exploitation are a major factor in the modern history of the Congo and have systematically denied the people their share of the resources.

Congolese women are holding meetings, conferences throughout the UK, in Parliament, universities and many other platforms to inform and discuss what is to be done to stop the Killing and Raping of Congolese Women in the DR Congo. They’re publishing articles, and writing reports on the current situation, also lobbying the UNSC members, the EU, and the international aid donors to change their policies towards the DRC.

It Must Stop Campaign

Who we are

We are two Congolese women, Victoria Dove Dimandja and Jose Musau Kalanda living in London. We are running the 'It Must Stop Campaign'. As Congolese women, we could not remain indifferent towards the on-going atrocities inflicted to women, men, girls and children in the DR Congo. We're trying to raise awareness of this catastrophic situation. In the DR Congo, millions of women have been literally and repeatedly raped to death, and still are, while the world is watching in complete silence. Nearly ten million have died, the majority are women and children under five, and two million have been displaced, living in appalling conditions in the refugee camps.

Mission Statement

It is our conviction that, unless the truth of what is really happening in the DR Congo is told and defended forcefully, the Congo crisis would continue for another decade, and women and children will continue to suffer.

We make a point of informing while taking the whole world as a witness of what is happening in the DR Congo. Expose the underlying forces that produce the war, rapes and the biblical suffering of the people of Congo in order to help people grasp the reality of the crisis. The ugly paradox of the 21st century, which is that some of our elegant symbols of modernity; smart phones, laptops, digital cameras and jewellery are built from minerals that are fuelling mass slaughter and on-going rapes in the DR Congo.

We appeal to all human rights organizations, defenders of freedom, churches, universities and the media all over the world to get behind our campaign, to stop these atrocities now.

Getting involved

We're also trying to network with other organisations to build up a very strong campaign. For the time being, we're working with *Liberation an international NGO, chaired by Jeremy Corbyn MP.

We call for actions; we call for evidence-based intervention to bring an end to these atrocities. In the absence of a serious push from all of us, the situation could quickly spiral out of control.

Congolese women need your help, please show your solidarity and Support. There cannot be world peace until these crimes against Congolese women are brought to an end.
